The year 2016 is coming to an end and it’s time to celebrate. Christmas and New Year’s party have always been the time to binge on food and drinks. Even the most ardent fitness guys would let down their guard and indulge themselves in the Christmas goodies. And then for the next one week after Christmas, people will plan and eagerly await the arrival of 31st December. However, at the back of their minds, they always plan to implement new resolutions in the coming year.
Even though we at Talwalkars live by the fitness mantra, we understand the fervor surrounding the last week of the year and accept this period as cheat week. But come the 1st of January (you can even take complete rest on the 1st and start from the next day) you have to get things back on track. Talwalkars will always be there to guide you on how to get back in shape and stay fit; however, this article will educate you on the things you need to do right, health-wise, after the merriment of 31st.
Keep yourself hydrated: The booze and the merriment will leave you dehydrated. The mistake most youth make today is that they reach out for aerated drinks to quench their thirst. Do not do this. Make sure you only have water or coconut water. You can start the day with a cup of green tea.
Eat light: Eat small meals including breakfasts. It will help to lower your cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Fruits, vegetables, and their juices: Avoid eating meat on the 1st of January. Instead, eat bright colored fruits and green veggies. It stimulates the liver enzymes and helps to remove the toxins from the body. Choose fruits for your breakfast and green veggies and their soups for lunch and dinner. Use natural herbs and spices to cook your food.
Only natural: As mentioned earlier, do not drink aerated drinks or consume packaged food such as baked products. Eat unrefined foods like brown rice.
Eat frequently: At times you may feel hungry due to eating light. Do not worry; feel free to eat natural food every two hours.
But eat slowly: Eating slowly aids the digestive process. Chew thoroughly and try to get a taste of the natural food.
Kick old habits: Control your urge to smoke or booze. Since it is the first day of the year pep up your willpower and quit.
Stretch or do yoga: After the hoopla of the previous night, your body would be sore. Do some stretches to relax your muscles. You can also do yoga stretches which help in detoxifying the body. Doing yoga also helps in overcoming cigarette cravings.
Rest: Take as much rest as you can on the first day of the year. Remember, from tomorrow onwards things get back to normal and you need to be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with them.
